Incandescent light
Luz incandescente (2000) é constituída por um armário de vidro com estrutura metálica, cuja porta traz impressas as instruções de uso da obra. No interior, encontram-se um pequeno frasco de colírio dilatador de pupila e alguns tapa-olhos.
Após a leitura das instruções, espera-se que o espectador pingue o colírio em um dos olhos, protegendo-o em seguida com o tapa-olho, para então percorrer a exposição. O tempo desse percurso corresponde ao intervalo necessário para que o efeito da substância entre em ação.
Concluída essa etapa, o visitante é convidado a inverter o procedimento: destapar o olho dilatado e cobrir o outro. Sob a alteração visual provocada pelo colírio — marcada por uma extrema sensibilidade à luz — ele revisita a exposição, agora submetido a uma nova condição perceptiva.
A obra desloca, assim, o campo da experiência estética para o próprio corpo do observador, transformando a visão — tradicionalmente entendida como instrumento neutro de apreensão — em matéria instável, sensível e condicionada.
Incandescent light (2000) consists of a glass cabinet with a metal frame, whose door bears the printed instructions for the use of the work. Inside, there is a small bottle of pupil-dilating eye drops and several eye patches.
After reading the instructions, the viewer is expected to apply the eye drops to one eye and then cover it with an eye patch before proceeding through the exhibition. The duration of this path corresponds to the time required for the substance to take effect.
Once this stage is completed, the visitor is invited to reverse the procedure: uncover the dilated eye and cover the other. Under the visual alteration produced by the drops—marked by extreme sensitivity to light—the viewer revisits the exhibition, now subjected to a new perceptual condition.
In this way, the work shifts the field of aesthetic experience to the body of the observer, transforming vision—traditionally understood as a neutral instrument of apprehension—into an unstable, sensitive, and conditioned medium.
