Macbeth Mauser
A instalação Macbeth Mauser (1991), apresentada na 21ª Bienal de São Paulo, estabelece um diálogo direto com a montagem teatral homônima que articulava os universos de William Shakespeare e Heiner Müller. Concebida como desdobramento espacial da cena, a obra assume uma função quase arqueológica: apresenta-se como vestígio de uma ação supostamente já acontecida.
Objetos e vestimentas encontram-se espalhados, “caídos por terra”, como restos de um espaço abandonado às pressas. Indícios de presença persistem, mas já convertidos em ruína, em resíduo.
A ambiência é atravessada pela luz bruxuleante de mais de uma centena de velas, de diferentes tamanhos, cuja coloração terrosa reverbera em tons de ferrugem. A atmosfera resultante é simultaneamente bela e trágica — um campo sensorial que faz transitar teatro, instalação e artes visuais, linguagens que se tornariam recorrentes na trajetória posterior dos Irmãos Guimarães.

The installation Macbeth Mauser (1991), presented at the 21st São Paulo Biennial, establishes a direct dialogue with the homonymous theatrical production that articulated the universes of William Shakespeare and Heiner Müller. Conceived as a spatial unfolding of the stage work, the installation assumes an almost archaeological function: it presents itself as the vestige of an action that has supposedly already taken place.
Objects and garments lie scattered, “fallen to the ground,” like remnants of a space hastily abandoned. Traces of presence persist, though already converted into ruin, into residue.
The environment is traversed by the flickering light of more than a hundred candles of varying sizes, whose earthy coloration reverberates in tones of rust. The resulting atmosphere is at once beautiful and tragic—a sensorial field that allows theatre, installation, and visual arts to intersect, languages that would become recurrent throughout the later trajectory of the Guimarães Brothers.
